Clever is a service that makes it easier for schools to use many popular education technology products. It works by providing a simple developer interface (API) for third party education technology software to access important data from Student Information Systems (SIS) used by schools. This data can then be used by third party products to deliver services with less hassle.

Code.org is a website dedicated to K-12 computer science (CS) instruction, from coursework to advocacy. The site is geared toward increasing diversity and accessibility in computer science, preparing new CS teachers, adding computer science to school curricula, and helping to set up policies that support computer science.

CodeHS is a website (and Chrome app) that features programming lessons and puzzles to help students learn to write and use code. Users watch short videos that explain design concepts – these are also available as slide shows – and then complete online challenges. The complete lessons mirror the topics and exercises common in a basic computer science course. Five full yearlong courses (Intro to CS in JavaScript, Intro to CS in Python, Computing Ideas, AP CS Principles, and AP CS in Java) are available, as are a number of supplemental courses, including online professional development for teachers.

CodeMonkey is an online game for students to learn coding in a step-by-step and fun manner. CodeMonkey was created to engage students in coding curriculum, and to give teachers a coding curriculum they can use with little to no coding knowledge themselves. The product is designed for elementary and middle schools students.

CoderZ is a web-based platform where students code virtual 3D robots to complete missions. After joining their online class, students step through clearly delineated tasks to make a robot follow a particular path or move around obstacles. Students select different block-based code commands to control the robot’s movement and interaction with elements on the screen. On the programming interface, students can switch from block-based code to Java. Students are also able to see data from the robot’s sensors, add a trail to mark its path, control the robot manually, and download the program to use with an actual robot (like a Lego Mindstorm EV3).

Collections is proven effective at creating thoughtful, passionate readers in the classroom. Teachers put the learning in their students’ hands.
